Meet the Doctors

Dr. Raj Vij

 

Dr. Vij moved to the Akron area after completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) at Loyola University Chicago School of Dentistry in 1991. He practiced as a general dentist for eight years before he made the decision to pursue his true passion of pediatric dentistry. He moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he completed a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry at the University of Maryland in 2001. He then moved back to Akron what he calls “home” and opened “Dentistry 4 Kids”.

Dr. Vij has previously served as the director of the Summit County Children’s Dental Health program and is currently on staff at Akron Children’s Hospital where he currently serves as the dental director. He is certified in basic life support and has advanced training in pediatric advanced life support (PALS). In 2004, Dr. Vij had an article entitled, “Pulp Therapy in Primary Teeth” published in the Journal of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Vij is extremely passionate about pediatric dentistry and the impact it has on children’s lives. This passion carries over into his relationships with his patients and their families. Each year Dr. Vij volunteers during the Children’s Dental Health month as well as the ‘Give Kids a Smile Day’ where free dental care is offered to children who cannot afford it.

Outside of his professional career, Dr. Vij enjoys playing tennis, watching the CAVS, doing yoga, listening to music and traveling with his wife and two children.

Dr. Leonor Hernandez

Dr. Hernandez was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. She completed a fellowship in Pediatric Dentistry at “San Rafael Hospital” in Madrid, Spain. Dr. Hernandez obtained her D.D.S. degree after completing the advance standing program at Case Western Reserve University, followed by a two-year post-graduate residency program in Pediatric Dentistry at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. During her residency, in addition to being involved with the Craniofacial team in the Department of Orthodontics, she was trained to work on the special needs of infants, children, and adolescents.

Dr. Hernandez is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Pediatric Dentistry Program at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine.

Finally, she enjoys spending time with her family and joining them for different activities such as tennis, yoga, skiing and especially traveling.

Dr. Emily Mellion

Dr. Emily Mellion grew up in southern Ohio. She completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Dayton and went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) at Ohio State University. Immediately after dental school, she completed a one-year advanced education in dentistry residency at Southern Illinois University. After working as a general dentist for a year she realized her passion was in serving the pediatric and adolescent population.

Dr. Emily pursued her specialty field in a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry at Case Western Reserve University/Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, where she served as the Chief Resident. During her residency, she had advanced training in treating patients under sedation, helped families with children that have special medical and behavioral needs, and participated in outreach programs in northeast Ohio that provided dental treatment to the underserved.

Dr. Emily is committed to giving back to others and enjoys volunteering in the community. She has provided dental care on three medical mission trips to Nicaragua and Honduras and plans to continue to participate on these trips throughout her career.

Outside of her professional career she enjoys traveling, cycling, running, and crafting. She also loves spending time with her husband, orthodontist Dr. Alex Mellion and daughter Margaret in their home in Bath.

Dr. Ying An

Dr. Ying An was born in Shanghai, China. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science from East China Normal University. She moved to the United States in 2006 shortly after graduating from college. She attended The Ohio State University’s College of Dentistry where she received her DDS degree and PhD in Oral Biology in 2016. After finishing her education in Columbus, she completed her pediatric dental residency program at Case Western Reserve University.

In her spare time, Dr. An enjoys spoiling her fur baby, Ronnie, a Welsh Corgi. She is a big Cleveland Indians fan and her passion for the tribe could be contagious.

Dr. Sandra Fox

Dr. Sandra Fox was born and raised in rural Iowa. After high school, she attended the University of Iowa where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with High Distinction. Her father is a general dentist and she had planned to follow in his footsteps until she discovered her passion for pediatric dentistry! She achieved her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Iowa in 2012 followed by a certificate in pediatric dentistry in 2014.

Dr. Fox is recognized as a Board Certified pediatric dentist by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She dedicates herself to providing the best possible dental care for her patients, ensuring that they have a positive and fun experience while learning to care for their own oral health. She places heavy emphasis on developing good oral hygiene habits with your child so that dental decay can be prevented for a lifetime.

While at the University of Iowa she met her husband, Mark. They have recently moved to Ohio from Dallas, Texas and are enjoying the cooler temperatures and mid-western hospitality. In her free time, Dr. Fox enjoys traveling, water sports, and exploring local restaurants.
